Champagne Truffles Make Delicious Recipes

By Jaclyn Hurley

There are certain desserts that automatically make a person think of special occasions. Wedding cakes or cupcakes are expected for marriages. Rich, chocolate desserts are popular for birthdays. Dinner out at an Italian restaurant usually means cheesecake. But when considering an anniversary celebration or even a Valentine's Day delight, there are dozens of delicious recipes for champagne truffles.

Interestingly, the name of this treat often gets associated with the special mushrooms with the same name. Thankfully, this is not the case. In fact, this sugary concoction was brought to popularity by Teuscher. As a world class chocolatier, his unique recipe created a creamy, rich center which held Dom Perignon. It was then cradled in a dark chocolate, rolled in confectioner's sugar. A far cry from the pig sniffed mushrooms.

Because of its rich and delicate flavors, these desserts have been associated with special occasions warranting first class quality. As expected, however, the price associated with these original creations can be a bit stifling for those with limited cash flow. Thankfully, with the plethora of excellent recipes available to the everyday person, there is no need to dip into personal savings.

As with most things nowadays, finding fantastic recipes are as easy as a web search. When searching for a quality recipe, type the term in quotation marks to ensure that everything that comes up is relevant to the search. Once the browser returns the options, there are literally hundreds of sites that can be chosen from. Each location may have multiple options to review. Then it comes down to selecting the best match.

What makes this dessert particularly unique is the fact that there are many variations that can be done. Any time one is adapting a recipe, it is best to start with decoration rather than recipe. An interesting way to take this already delicious chocolate delight to the next level is to add gold leafing. Leafing is 14 karat gold foil that is extremely delicate, but edible. When applied with a dry paint brush, the golden color almost looks like the bubbles in the glasses.

Another tasty option is using a milk chocolate mix instead of dark chocolate. The basic instructions stay the same, however, instead of wrapping the liquored center in a rich, dark ganache it is rolled in liquid milk chocolate. Not only is it a delicate flavor, the color looks like rich caramel. Again, the completed and dried eggs look great in a glass bowl.

A unique twist on the recipe is making the truffles pink to go with the signature drink. In this case, after the creme center is hardened, white chocolate is used with a splash of cherry or strawberry gelatin to tint the exterior. It is not quite as rich of a taste, but delicious nonetheless.

There is no reason to celebrate special occasions with the same desserts year after year. Rather than purchasing a box of standard chocolate candies, it is just as easy to make a delicious treat by hand. Not only will it show the special person that they are worth the extra effort, but it proves that it is possible to think outside of the box.
