Guide To Use When Making A PA Clothing Donation

By Carol Edwards

There is no need to keep clothes that you are no longer using. Not if there are so many people that can make good use of those clothes. Therefore, if you have a tonne of things that are just sitting in your wardrobe, it is time that you considered giving them out. Here are some tips on how to make a PA clothing donation.

Think about which organizations can take the used clothes. You can donate to one organization or to more than one. Deciding which organization to donate to will help you familiarize yourself with what their giving rules are. You will also know what they can and cannot take. Due to logistical reasons, it will be helpful if you find organizations to give to where you are instead of giving stuff away to organizations in far off places.

You need to go through your closets and decide what you are going to keep and what you are going to donate. Go through the closets one at a time. Consider giving away any cloths that you have not worn in a long time, or clothes that you have outgrown and cannot wear in future. Only give clothes that are still in good condition. Get rid of any stained cloth and anything that is torn.

You then need to sort out the clothes. Don't just dump them all into a box or bag and drop them off at the center. You can opt to make the work of the people who work in the charitable organizations much easier by organizing the clothes into different categories and labeling them. Cloths for different age groups, seasons and gender should be grouped differently.

You can get a tax deduction for the items that you donate. Therefore, keep a list of the things that you giveaway and approximate their value. You can get a guide from the center where you are going to donate. Some of them will give you an approximation of how much items are worth on their websites.

Launder the items first before you pack them up. Unwashed laundry can make all the clothes have a bad odor and this can, make them repugnant for other people to take. Some charitable organizations might that you dry clean the items or even machine wash them first before donating. This will save them the hassle of having to do so themselves.

If you have unique clothes to give away, try and find organizations that specialize in these areas. When giving away cloths such as tuxedos or prom and wedding dresses, you need to find an organization that will handle them with care and know what to do with them. Don't put them in with your regular give always.

Be committed to this activity and set aside time for it. If you have lots of things to go through, be patient through the whole process. It might take you a day or several days to work out everything. That is why you should do it during your free time. This can be when you have leave from work or over the weekends. You can also divide the activities into little chunks and do them in bits
