Planning A Fabulous Central Park Wedding

By Susan Anderson

Everybody wants their wedding day to be really special and a day they can remember for the rest of their life. While some people choose a traditional marriage in church, others prefer a simple civil service but services are often in courts or civic offices with little romance attached. A great alternative which combines romance and simplicity is a central park wedding.

Located in New York, NY one of the most famous cities in the world, Central Park is an iconic destination. Featured in many romantic movies and with a host of beautiful spots to choose from this famous landmark provides the perfect backdrop for a marriage ceremony. The top locations can be booked online and planners are available to assist with every aspect of the big day.

The most popular place for weddings is the Conservatory Garden area. With three different areas to choose from, each with a feature pool or fountain, there is a style to suit everyone. The English garden has a labyrinth and the Italian style pergola provides an ideal background for photos. This area is situated just off 5th Ave. At 105th St.

The Ladies Pavilion is also extremely popular with wedding parties. It can be found on the west side between 75th Street and 76th Street. This picturesque Victorian style pavilion made from iron is near to The Lake. It takes you back to olden days where young ladies carried parasols and their young gentlemen walked with them arm in arm and soaked up the atmosphere of the vibrant city.

Every element of nature comes together another popular site. The Pond combines peace and beauty in prefect harmony. With a backdrop of ducks on the pond and the Gapstow Bridge there a few places more picturesque. Trees and flowers around the shore add to the already glorious scenery. This area can be found near to the main entrance off 5th Avenue and 56th Street.

If you decide that you would like to marry in this wonderful natural setting, the first step is to book a date. You can go online and reserve the date and location of your choice. Bear in mind that you are not allowed to erect tents or canopies so think about the weather. Plan a contingency location in case of heavy rain or high winds.

There are certain restrictions on the number of guests allowed at any of the designated marriage areas. Your planner will help you pick a suitable one for the number of people you want to invite. The maximum is three hundred, but some areas hold a lot fewer guests. You will also need to apply to the Parks Department for a permit which can take up to 1 month to arrive. This can be done online and again your planner can assist you.

As with any marriage service you will need to obtain a license from the city clerk. Information about how to do this can also be found online. You will need to get your license at least 24 hours before you are due to be married. There are companies and websites that can give all the information about this beautiful location and help plan every aspect of your special day from getting there to the reception afterwards.
